Education: Late Sultan Mohammad Munadi was born in 1975 in Astana of Bazarak District of Panjshir. He went to Amir Shirali Khan Primary School and graduated from Nadiria High School in 1991. He was admitted in Journalism faculty of Kabul University in 1995 and after a long gap due to infighting he managed to get his bachelor's degree from the Press Section of Journalism faculty.

Red Cross: In the difficult years of Taliban reign, from 1997 to 2002, Sultan was working for ICRC as a liaison/communications/press officer based in local Gulbahar Office. This is where Sultan started his career in press and communications. As an outstanding figure who had an essential role in coordinating activities of ICRC between northern office and Kabul HQ, Sultan enjoyed a lot of popularity amongst his colleagues and superiors.

New York Times: Following the establishment of interim government in 2002, Sultan joined New York Times and worked there until 2006 as a local correspondent and contributed many reports in English language to the paper. In addition to gathering first-hand information, he carried out standard translations between English, Persian and Pashto. He also was regarded as a great local manager for the local office of New York Times in Kabul .

Good Morning Afghanistan/AwaNama/Channel 7: Sultan joined Good Morning Afghanistan/AwaNama Productions in 2006. He worked as an editor, producer, and director under the title of “Production Manager”. He mostly assisted GMA with coverage of important international events with regards to Afghanistan . After the managing editor, he had the primary responsibility of directing journalists and editing reports for radio and website. Sultan not only did radio journalism but over 3 years of his career in GMA/AwaNama, he produced and directed 4 movies, 2 video documentaries, and over a 100 public service announcements for government and foreign organisations with regards to human rights, women's rights, police, army, narcotics, and construction efforts – some of them still being aired on various channels. A television program supported by AwaNama on state-run RTA called The Reflection was a show that Sultan started and directed for half a year. As a senior management, he also help in the process of starting the a television channel, the Channel 7, which will be launched soon. Already before going to Germany , he had taken over as the managing editor of the upcoming channel.

Masters Degree : In early 2009, Sultan went to Germany for doing his masters degree in Public Policy and Good Governance. He visited his family for two times and it was in his second visit that his old colleagues in New York Times asked him to help with coverage of the latest events and assisting the foreign correspondents.

Multimedia Journalist: Given his background in public relations, communications, press, radio, TV, and online, Sultan was indeed a multimedia journalist. Afghanistan has only a few such journalists.

Trainings/Travels: Sultan went to tens of Asian and western countries – including India , USA , Sweden , Denmark , Germany – over the past 8 years to either represent Afghanistan in media conferences or enrich has professional knowledge through further trainings on journalism and media.

Behaviour: A mourning friend of Sultan who was with him in Sweden wrote: “ If the one who shot Sultan knew how he is depriving the humanity of such a noble man, he would have definitely held it back. ” Another friend of his says: “ If you knew Sultan for half an hour, you would be his friend forever, even if you were his enemy while not knowing him ”...

Martyrdom : On Saturday, 5 September 2009, Sultan was abducted alongside an Irish-English citizen near Chardara District of Kunduz province while trying to cover the latest bombing of Nato on the region. Following three days of captivity with the Taliban, on the morning of Wednesday September the 9 th , Sultan was cowardly killed as a result of a rescue operation that British forces had launched in order to save the life their own citizen. His name will be remembered forever by us, the Afghan media, and he will be one of the unforgettable. May God Almighty bless Sultan!
