Dismissing President Karzais accusation that the US is meddling in the internal affairs of Afghanistan , the White House Monday said the allegations were not true.
This is simply not true, the White House Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, told reporters at a news conference when asked about the newest accusation by Afghan President Hamid Karzai that the United States is meddling in the Afghan governmental affairs.
Gibbs said the May 12 White House meeting between Karzai and the US President, Barack Obama, is still on. "President Karzai is the elected leader of Afghanistan ," the White House Press Secretary said when asked if Obama still had confidence in Karzai .
Obama made a surprise unannounced trip to Afghanistan last week. Since then Karzai has been issuing anti-US statement including the accusation that foreign forces were responsible for last year's fraud-marred presidential and provincial council elections.
The White House last week said, it was troubled by such a remark from Karzai and had sought an explanation from the Kabul .
Karzai himself had called the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, to clarify the position following which the State Department issued a statement saying that the two leaders agreed to work together to meet their common objectives in Afghanistan .
